We spent the days leading up to B & G’s elopement closely watching the weather forecast. Since it predicted low cloud coverage and sunrise was a tossup, we decided to stay flexible and planned a nearby backup location with a backup timeline. With my guidance, we took a risk on sunrise and all set an early alarm. On the morning of the elopement, we met at the trailhead in the Mount Baker Wilderness. B & G changed into their outfits by their car and we began the day with sunrise photos at an alpine lake near Mount Shuksan, with calm water and soft morning light.
After finishing the first set of photos, we headed to a second location nearby. The morning light was incredible and more magical than we had even imagined with our slim chances at sunrise in the forecast. We took advantage of the conditions and captured more portraits while taking in the views before heading to the third location to meet the family.
Seasonal wildflowers lined the trail as we hiked into the meadows, a highlight of summer hiking in the Mount Baker Wilderness. As we gained elevation, the clouds slowly lifted, revealing views of the surrounding North Cascade mountain range and even Mount Baker briefly showed itself. Hiking with their dog was important, and we chose an intentional location that allowed dogs in the area. B & G’s family brought great energy and conversation on the hike. Near the top of the ridge, we found the perfect quiet ceremony spot away from the main trail. We made sure to follow Leave No Trace principles and stayed on side trails and durable surfaces.
In the wild ceremony site, the bride and her little lady entourage had a little bridal suite away from the men. They all helped her get ready while the men set up the ceremony site. The groom’s father officiated the ceremony, making it personal and meaningful. There was no shortage of happy tears! B & G exchanged vows surrounded by family, mountain views, and alpine landscape, all the while I captured every little moment.
After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a casual lunch of sandwiches, followed by a champagne toast. A family member who couldn’t attend joined briefly via FaceTime, allowing them to be part of the celebration from afar. It was such a treat to have cell service here, which can’t be said of all locations.
The hike back down was relaxed and full of laughter. From alpine lakes and wildflower trails to expansive North Cascade views, this Washington elopement in the Mount Baker Wilderness highlighted why the area is such an incredible location for couples looking to elope in the mountains. Being able to document the day from start to finish made this elopement both meaningful and memorable.
